The Art of Concert Going

Posted on July 19, 2016 by Kris Dybdahl | 0 Comments

Summer is the season to get outdoors and see some live music, whether it’s a multi-day music festival or a concert with the family in the park. There’s nothing quite like packing up a picnic for an evening under the stars or getting an all-access pass to see some of your favorite bands live.

Imagine what it takes to execute one of these events. It all starts with the artists onstage, feeding their music into microphones that are amplified and broadcast across a venue, large or small, indoors or out, with the help of amplifiers. Lighting is critical to stage presence, and furthers the artistry of the band. Video is often used to tell a story or paint a dramatic backdrop as the music plays on. Being in that moment and part a crowd of fans can be spectacular and even nostalgic.

For the best possible concert-going experience, we recommend giving yourself plenty of time to get to the venue itself. Parking at a crowded stadium and walking to the venue can take some time. If it’s a band you love but haven’t listened to in a while, brush up on their repertoire by downloading or streaming music from typical set lists to your phone. Check out before you go to see what’s in store and get reacquainted. Stay hydrated, and most importantly, have fun!

While there’s nothing quite like being there, the live experience can be replicated in the home. For this, we recommend not only listening to live concerts but watching them on Blu-ray. There are some unbelievably great recordings of live performances that include state-of-the-art music mixes, many of them in surround sound. Queen’s Rock Montreal & Live Aid (Eagle Vision), Talking Heads: Stop Making Sense (Palm Pictures), Legends of Jazz (WEA), for example, are all iconic performances that you can find on Blu-ray and some of which offer things like Dolby TrueHD multichannel sound and pristine video transfers. We also recommend Roger Waters The Wall, one of the first music-oriented Blu-rays to be presented in Dolby Atmos, the immersive object-based surround sound format. The film details one of the most elaborately staged theatrical productions in music history as Pink Floyd frontman Roger Waters performs the band's critically acclaimed album The Wall in its entirety. Not into these artists? Check out your favorite artist on Blu-ray to get a live, surround-sound experience in your own home theater.

For the best live concert experience at home, give your home theater a tune-up. For starters, you want surround sound, which means multiple speakers and a subwoofer. Now’s a great time to upgrade to Dolby Atmos, as we expect this format will become more and more popular for concert DVDs as it becomes more mainstream. (You’ll also love the way it sounds on your favorite movies!) We’d be happy to help you calibrate your speakers to make sure you are eeking out every bit of performance from your investment. It’s amazing how much better a properly calibrated speaker system can sound on your favorite live music.

Whether you are staying home or stepping out for an evening of music, your favorite artists deserve the best possible presentation. Come in or call us to bring the live experience to your home. We’re here to help!

The Full Cinematic Experience, Now Available In Your Home.

The Cinematic Experience

The new Star Wars: The Force Awakens movie, which is now available digitally, was filled with whirring lightsabers and chaotic action scenes. The theaters were packed as the amazing, crystal clear sights and sounds of Tie-Fighters roaring across the skies and lightsaber battles filled the room. Whether you got to see the movie in theaters or not, 2016 is the year to upgrade your home theater and recreate that exciting cinematic experience right inside your own home. Technology continues its steady march onward, and manufacturers are offering incredible quality—especially in audio and increased image fidelity—at prices that won’t break the bank. So if you want the incredible experience of feeling like you’re right there in the middle of each scene, read on and find out how you can recreate that perfect cinema experience.

4K Ultra HD TV
It wasn't so very long ago that 4K Ultra HD TVs were something only for those with tens of thousands of dollars to spare. Now, prices have come down enough that most of us can afford a 4K Ultra HD TV. While 4K Ultra HD content is still relatively sparse, these sets can make even high-definition content look better thanks to their internal video upscalers, so you don't have to wait. After all, the equipment always comes before the content so when the time comes you'll be ready to go.

HD and 4K Projectors
Want a bigger screen, but don't want to sacrifice image quality? 4K projectors are also popping up on the home theater scene, allowing for an even larger Ultra HD image on a huge projection screen. And when you see Ultra HD on a big screen, you'll see what all the fuss is about. Come in for a demo, we promise it will blow you away.

Wireless speakers
We prefer a wired speaker over a wireless one for reliability and quality, but there's no denying that wireless home audio is the future. Investing in a good pair of wireless speakers or a wireless home audio system is key to building the perfect, hands-free home theater. We're talking more than just a portable little Bluetooth speaker that you can buy at the drugstore. For music fidelity, you need power, features and flexibility.

Dolby Atmos
In many movies and TV shows, the sharpness of the sound is lost in the mix when using conventional audio systems. Dolby Atmos will expand your audio by unlocking up to 128 simultaneous audio objects. That translates to a fuller, richer audio quality that conventional speakers alone simply can't compete with.

A better network
We've said it before and we'll say it again: A great home entertainment experience depends on the solid foundation of a robust home network. The routers your cable company provides simply aren't going to cut it anymore. You need more power, more coverage and more bandwidth to ensure that every area of your home has wireless coverage that won't drop out or get clogged up. We can help you accomplish this quickly and painlessly.

Come in today (14123 Hwy. 281 N.), call us (210-828-3237) or click here to set up a demo of any or all of these technologies. After all, you deserve to have the very best performance when it comes to your favorite movies and content. We can help you get there, simply and affordably.

Daylight Healing Time

Few of us need an in-depth scientific study to convince ourselves of the wonderfully rejuvenating and highly beneficial effects of sunshine and fresh air on both our short- and long-term health. (If you’ve been working so much lately that you can’t quite remember what it’s like to feel the sun on your face or the wind in your hair, maybe it’s time you took a day or two off.) Yet our lives are so intertwined with technology – for productivity, communication, and entertainment – that we’re not always inclined or able to “take the cure” of the great outdoors, even if it’s as simple as spending a cool, quiet morning sitting on your deck, enjoying a refreshing sunny afternoon swim in the pool, or enjoying a relaxing evening watching a movie with friends and colleagues on your patio.
