There’s a reason the electronics shows in our industry are huge. Gadget geeks come out in droves every year to see the thousands of new TVs, audio devices, and home automation technology innovations. It’s cool, it’s new, it’s what’s next. The speed of industry advancement is baffling.
Bjorn’s is known to have the highest quality, cutting-edge devices at the best prices. How do we do that, and what do we watch develop before bringing a product into our store and your home?
First, we look at reliability and product maturity. Is this a brand new product in its first generation? How “buggy” is it? We watch products mature, sometimes for years, before we offer it to you. For example, there’s a fantastic 3D TV experience we’ve kept an eye on for several years, and every CES it just gets better. Within a few years there is the possibility that you might start hearing about 3D technology again, this time visible from any vantage point, without glasses. While the tech is still not quite ready for prime time, I have no doubt that it eventually will be an exciting home entertainment experience. New technology should be easy to use and integrate into your existing home automation or entertainment system and should simplify and enhance your life. We want your experience to be flawless.
Next, we watch for any regulatory issues, like network security regulations or HIPAA laws from the emerging health and wellness products we’ll see burst onto the scene with 5G technology.
Price. That’s a big one. Often when an immature new product first releases it’s very expensive and doesn’t perform optimally. We may wait a few generations of releases to make sure that the great idea meets our performance standards and that the price is a reasonable return on investment. We’ve all seen a price go down as technology and manufacturing processes mature, and at Bjorn’s we’re monitoring for the perfect balance of innovation, price and reliability.
Finally, we look at security. No software is hacker-proof. It just isn’t, and frankly no one knows if it ever will be. This is another factor where we look for balance and the odds of having a security issue. However, ANY connected device, down to your smart watch or fitness tracker, is open to hacking.
Investing in emerging technology, be it a new home entertainment system or home automation, requires research and expert guidance. At Bjorn’s, we help with the legwork of finding the best products and provide expert guidance and installation. We’re excited to help you on your technology journey and look forward to seeing you soon.
