Rega is famed for its tonearm designs. One unique characteristic of these designs is the achievement of near frictionless movement horizontally and vertically whilst having no measurable free play in the bearing assemblies. A brand new low mass precision engineered vertical bearing assembly has been manufactured to further complement the inherent design philosophy of the Planar 8 turntable. The RB880 uses the latest Rega arm tube. Completely redesigned to redistribute mass and further reduce stresses and resonances. This advanced design tube increases the stiffness and rigidity of the overall assembly using CAD design to blend the multiple varying tapers.

Externally we have fitted a bespoke Rega designed low capacitance phono cable. Which uses an advanced phono plug assembly. This has only two parts to minimize joints and incorporates a twist and clamp design locking the plug to the terminal. The design increases connectivity and ensures the signal path is kept as clean as possible.

The RB3000 tonearm is packed with new features pushing the boundaries of tonearm design. The R3000 uses improved bearings with each one being hand selected to be an interference fit with the paired spindle matching both the inside and outside diameters.

The entire tonearm structure is designed to have the minimum of mechanical joints whilst using the stiffest materials in all critical areas. The tolerance of the RB3000 tonearm is so tight that no adhesive is used at any point throughout the construction. A brand new, low mass, precision engineered, vertical bearing assembly has been manufactured to further complement the inherent design philosophy of the Planar 10 turntable.

The RB3000 uses the latest award-winning Rega arm tube. Each one which is meticulously hand polished (keeping mass to an absolute minimum) and has been completely redesigned to redistribute mass and further reduce stresses and resonances. This advanced design tube increases the stiffness and rigidity of the overall assembly whilst reducing stress on the bearings even further.

At the heart of the MQ112 lies an 8-band analog equalizer (also called a stereo equalizer) that allows you to increase or decrease the levels of the audio signal at 8 key bands in the 25Hz – 10kHz audio frequency range. Think of it as a sonic sculptor that allows you to finely tune the audio signal. With an impressive ±12dB range of adjustment for each band, you can easily cope with any sound challenge. The MQ112 is the solution you need to enhance or subdue particular instrument ranges or voice types, transforming your listening experience.

The MQ112 Environmental Equalizer does more than just fix room acoustics; it can also breathe new life into older, imperfect recordings. With the master precision of the MQ112, you can target specific frequencies, compensating for deficiencies in vintage tracks and unveiling their hidden brilliance.

The TILT knob, with its subtle tonal balance shift of ±6dB, allows you to customize your sound further. Boost the bass while reducing treble, or vice versa – the choice is yours. The EQ Control knob's IN and OUT settings let you bypass the entire equalizer circuit so you compare the adjusted sound to the original, unaltered version, ensuring you achieve the perfect audio profile. The equalizer can also be triggered IN or OUT using the rear panel’s EQ Control Trigger, giving you seamless control over when the MQ112 works its magic. Also, by using one of the programmable triggers in the audio system's preamplifier, the EQ can be switched IN or OUT depending on input or amplifier choice. Crafted with precision and versatility, the MQ112 boasts remarkably low noise circuits and minimal distortion, harmonizing seamlessly with high-performance audio systems.

Both balanced and unbalanced inputs and outputs are included on the versatile MQ112, making it easy to add it to your stereo system: simply place it between the preamplifier and power amplifier(s) and connect them all together using the inputs and outputs of your choice. The input type you use does not have to match the output type; for example, you could connect a preamplifier (or another audio component with volume control like some CD Players) via the unbalanced inputs, but then connect the MQ112 to your power amplifier(s) with balanced cables via the balanced outputs. The MQ112 can also be used with integrated amplifiers, provided the integrated amp has removable jumpers so the preamplifier section can be disconnected from the power amplifier section.

The versatility of the MQ112 is further evident in its second pair of outputs, which opens a world of possibilities for enjoying your music. You can play the same music through a separate stereo system in another room, bi-amp a single pair of speakers for optimal sound control, or connect a subwoofer for that extra bass punch.

For subwoofers without stereo inputs, the second output on the MQ112 can be set to MONO; two subwoofers can also be connected this way. In more intricate systems, the MQ112 can be connected through PROCESSOR loops and TAPE MONITOR record/play connections found on many preamplifiers and integrated amplifiers.

The Importance of Zero Play in the Bearings of a Hi-Fi Tonearm

Rega is famed for its tonearm designs. One unique characteristic of these designs is the achievement of near frictionless movement horizontally and vertically whilst having no measurable free play in the bearing assemblies (and in reality one or two microns of pre load). So, why has Rega spent over thirty years and invested so heavily in this area of tonearm design where the removal of even microns of movement has been pursued?

Look at a stereo vinyl LP under an electron microscope and you will see microscopic ridges and bumps that the diamond stylus of the pick-up cartridge tracks and reads. The length of a ridge depends on its frequency. The height is its amplitude.

Towards the center of an LP, a 10Khz signal is just 26 microns long and if it’s very quiet it may be less than 10 microns high. If your tonearm has 10 microns of movement within the bearing assemblies (and even very expensive tonearms usually have much more play and movement), reading the bumps will be difficult and musical vibration will be lost in arm movement.

It is impossible to quantify exactly the musical distortion or loss of measured information. This is due to the random nature of pivot or bearing movement. However, it is easy to see that accurate measurement or tracking of a 10 micron bump is not possible if the tracking stylus can move randomly at least the same distance that it is trying to measure.

The Atlas was born out of frustration having used so many outsourced gauges in our tonearm production areas over the years for them to consistently fail after minimal use. The re-designed MK2 version now offers a much wider weight range to deal with the more extreme cartridges on the market (up to 10g). Our engineers have also improved stability and sensitivity to ensure total accuracy every time.

The Atlas is designed to provide reliable and accurate measurement of tracking force for the lifetime of your turntable. Inside the durable aluminum, casework is a highly stable loadcell and precision amplification circuitry. There is also a custom-designed front guard to protect the measuring element and provide easy alignment. This allows the Atlas to achieve accurate and reliable performance with minimal input from the user.

The loadcell is a premium full bridge, shear beam construction. The cell is temperature compensated for a wide range of operating temperatures and is extremely resilient to shocks and deterioration over time. The intelligent design of the Atlas ensures the tracking force is measured in the same place every time allowing for very fine adjustment to two decimal places.
